1. I've been sending invites to people with hotmail addresses, and they've been getting them and activating them. That was 24 hours ago when the last one was accepted.

2. I sent a buddy on Hotmail an invite about a week ago. He got it, opened an account immediately and I got the "receipt." Ironically, I sent his wife on Yahoo an invite, too. She never got it. (Actually, I suspect it went into her "Bulk" folder and she deleted it.)

3. I recently invited a friend to gmail using his yahoo account. Sure enough, he found it in his spam folder. Such tactics can only draw more attention to gmail in a period when promises of more space by the established providers are damping some people's enthusiasm. Google should give flash movies showing how easy it is to work with mail in a smart, threaded interfdace where, unlike yahoo, you can't lose your e-mail because of a network glitch or an expired session. Where you don't have to reload the page for every minor action so you can see more ads.

4. Undeliverable messages, provided they result (correctly) in a bounce message rather than just being eaten by the receiving end, will end up back in your Gmail inbox. This works as a trick to invite someone to Gmail who doesn't already have an email address: send the invitation to an address that you know will bounce, and then pick the confirmation URL out of the bounce message to give to your friend.

5. I do think HOTMAIL might be upto no good. I had signed up for GMAIL alerts about 3 or 4 months ago, and had completely forgotten about it till today. And I just realized I havent recieved a single email from gmail... let it be an invite, alert or anything! I just signedup again with my company account... we'll see how that goes!!
