CNET is reporting that Microsoft and chip maker Intel are going to throw their support to Toshiba's HD DVD format, versus Sony's Blu-ray format. This comes at a time where Blu-ray appeared to have been winning the public relations battle with an announcement that Sony will be including Blu-ray technology in the upcoming PlayStation 3 gaming console. Toshiba on the other hand recently announced that it will likely not have HD DVD ready for release before the end of the year. For those that remember the great VCR format battle, this battle for a high-definition DVD format is starting to get very interesting, and maybe somewhat scary. With Microsoft throwing its weight around, don't count HD DVD out.
