UPDATE: The title to this post has been modified to reflect that what was released today is the
Release Candidiate 3 and not the official version (although, apparently it may be the official version). See the
comments for more information on Mozilla's explanation of their naming conventions.
I just installed a new extension into Firefox and thought, "why not check manually for updates". To my surprise, the Check for Updates window announced Firefox 1.5 was available and suggested I should update ASAP. It took about 10 seconds to download the updater, Firefox restarted, and it appears that I'm now running version 1.5 official (but it turns out that it's actually RC3). I'm not sure why the automatic updates feature hadn't picked this up but I'm glad I checked. I've found the new 1.5 version to be much faster and more stable that the 1.0.X versions. Yes, I'm still waiting on a few key extensions to be updated to work with this new version, but I'm hopeful that this will happen quickly now that the official release has been made available.

1. Actually RC2 Identified itself just as "1.5" this might just be RC3
