Massachusetts, in a reversal from their decision to create a state document standard built on the OpenDocument and
PDF formats, has acknowledged that Microsoft's recent submission of the new Office XML doument formats has the company
back in the running to compete for state business.
The state secretary of adminstration and finance is
quoted as saying, "The commonwealth is very
pleased with Microsoft's progress in creating an open document format. If Microsoft follows through as planned, we are
optimistic that Office Open XML will meet our new standards for acceptable open formats."
Quite a comeback.
