Live.com

In our ongoing coverage of Microsoft's Live initiative, today we'd like to highlight the Windows Live personalized homepage, simply named Live.

As far as personalized homepages go, Live has most of the features you'd expect - News, RSS feeds and "gadgets", consisting of Mail, Stock Quotes, Weather Forecasts, Horoscopes, Ticking Clock, Quote of the Day, Shopping, and Safety Center. It's all presented it in a very low-key, uncluttered fashion. The site is very "Web 2.0", with AJAX (or a reasonable facsimile) allowing for the gadgets to be dragged and dropped around the screen, and the page can be switched from 1 to 4 columns as well as allowing for the color scheme to be subtly changed. Live.com also has a thriving community with over 150 user-built Gadgets that can be added to your Live homepage.

For now, Live.com is an average at best personalized homepage. There are better ones out there, including NetVibes, Protopage, and even Google's. It remains to be seen if the introduction of Microsoft's other Live products will significantly expand the functionality of Live.com.
